We are a specialist team dedicated to the care of babies, children and teenagers up to the age of 18 who have problems that require surgical management. As a specialty, we are unique in that we treat such a wide range of surgical conditions. These include problems with the kidneys, bladder, urinary tracts, genitalia, abdomen, chest (including lung and skeletal deformities and chest lesions), and conditions of the upper and lower gastrointestinal system. Our work also includes the treatment of childhood tumours (both benign and malignant), bowel and urinary continence, and a variety of other problems including some head and neck conditions. We do not deal with neurosurgery, heart surgery, orthopaedic surgery and the majority of ear, nose and throat surgerical conditions.
Our surgeons, Mr Feilim Murphy (neonatal, paediatric and adolescent urologist) and Mr Bruce Okoye (neonatal, paediatric and adolescent surgeon) have worked together for many years and provide a unique multidisciplinary approach to the children under their care, often working together to treat complex conditions in the areas where their specialisms overlap.
Whilst the child in our care always remains our priority, we appreciate the impact a child’s ill health and surgical treatment can have on parents, siblings and other family members. As such, our aim is to consider the whole family throughout the course of the child’s treatment, and ensure an experience that is as stress free as possible.
